Security Alarm FAQ's

We've compiled a list of frequently asked questions regarding your security system.  If your questions or concerns have not been addressed below, please call 1-888-638-7697 and we will be happy to assist you.  See also the Security Glossary for common security terms and explanations.

Keypad displays "NO AC"

  • Your keypad will normally display "NO AC" when the system has lost electrical current.  The outlet should be checked to verify that it is operational.  If the outlet is working properly, a service call will be needed.

Keypad displays "BAT" or "Battery"

  • This can be caused by a power outage, flipped breakers, or your system may have been unplugged.  Your keypad may continue to display the same message after power has been restored.  This indicates that your systems battery is recharging.  If the same message remains on your display after 72 hours, please contact Metro Link at 1-888-638-7697 for assistance.

Keypad displays "FC"

  • "FC" is an error code indicating that your alarm system is having trouble communicating with Metro Link's monitoring center.  Many times, changing the type of phone service or provider initiates this error code.  Call Metro Link at 1-888-638-7697 to help troubleshoot and/or request repair service.

Keypad displays "NOT READY"

  • Your keypad is informing you that the alarm system is not ready to turn on (arm).  Common reasons for this are that a window or door is not completely closed, a motion detector may be sensing movement, or previous alarm has not been cleared out of memory (typically turning off the system twice clears this).  Once you correct the condition, the alarm system will be ready to arm.

My system is beeping, why?

  • Your Metro Link security system should very seldom produce any beeping noises.  If you hear beeping, look for likely culprits first.  Microwaves, mobile phones, store-purchased smoke detectors or carbon monoxide alarms can make a beeping sound.  If the sound is not coming from such devices, check you keypad.  Your Metro Link system will tell you if something is wrong.  If there is nothing displayed on your keypad, the beeping is not coming from your security system.

Updating Emergency Contact List

  • Just call Metro Link at 1-888-638-7697 with your changes.  Have your pass code ready in order to make your changes.  Make sure to tell everyone on your call list what to do in case they receive a call from Metro Link.

What is a "Keyholder"

  • A keyholder is anyone on your call list that may have keys to the premise and a code to the alarm system.  This can be helpful to the authorities in the event of an emergency.

If I loose power, will the alarm still work?

  • Yes.  In case of a power loss, the back-up battery will activate to maintain your alarm protection for several hours.  In the event your battery is low, a low-battery signal will be sent to the Monitoring Center so you can be notified, provided your communication link is not reliant on a power source supplied by the premise.

Am I responsible for testing my system regularly?

  • Yes.  It is your responsibility to make sure that your system is in good working order.  It's easy to test your system; just refer to our owner handbook or call 1-888-648-7697 and follow the simple instructions.  If you find that a part of your system is not working properly, call metro Link at 1-888-638-7697 to request repair service.
